EMPLOYMENT

Purchasing Manager - Directed the expenditure of $80-100 million for material, equip­ment, and supplies to attain price, quality, and delivery schedule objectives. Established purchasing policies, formulated department procedures, and guided personnel actions to achieve goals. Supervised up to 24 employees responsible for supplier selection and negotiations, cost/price maintenance, resolution of discrepant shipment reports, resolution of receiving problems, and expediting. Implemented a cost reduction program which produced $800,000 in confirmed savings in the first 12 months of the program. Designed new procedures which ensure on-time, errorless cost/price updates.

 

Purchasing Manager - (business forms printing company). Responsible for all areas of purchasing, inventory control, shipping, receiving, stock handling, and deliveries. Procure all inventory products, equipment, and MRO supplies. Negotiate with vendors and expedite orders. On-time delivery of orders has increased from 65% to 96%. Lead time needed for orders has been reduced from 28 working days to 10. Redesign of the warehouse layout has reduced inventory loss and damage from 4% to less than 1%, and picking time on orders has been reduced 45%. Buy virtually exclusively from mills and have reduced warehouse buying of roll paper stock 95%, saving $58,000 per year.

 

Procurement Specialist - Purchase computers, terminals, and peripherals. Negotiate noncompetitive contracts with vendors and write contracts from scratch. Monitor vendors to ensure total compliance with contracts, particularly in the area of maintenance and repair. Instituted a money-saving purchase order system which saves over $20,000 annually. Won six cost-saving awards for negotiations and new methods which saved a total of $1.6 million.

 

Buyer - Purchase over 5,000 different machine shop tools based on specs. Make on-site visits to vendors to inspect their facilities and to identify prospective vendors. Obtained several new vendors which have produced numerous parts at 25-50% less than previous vendors. Heavily involved in competitive bidding and writing of contracts.

Purchasing Manager/Packaging—For this $90 million private label food processing company, negotiate, award, and administer contracts with vendors for the procurement of $8 million annually of packaging supplies. Through improved organization and a streamlining of procedures, no staff has been added though sales have increased 38% in the past three years.

Have strengthened relationships with vendors and work closely with them to identify ways to consolidate orders, increase quantity buys, and develop other methods for decreasing packaging costs. Through these efforts supplies expense has been reduced by 14.8% in the past year while sales have increased 11.6%. Saved $120,000 on tote container purchases by forecasting upcoming price increases and locking in current prices for upcoming purchases. Initiated and coordinated packaging specification changes which saves $26,000 annually. In combination, these and other efforts, have saved $800,000 in the past twelve months.

 

Materials Manager—Manage all purchasing, inventory control, shipping, and receiving functions. Set up all procedures from scratch in this start-up manufacturing operation. Created and managed many successful Just in Time vendor relationships and in-house material processes. Increased inventory turns to twice the industry average. Ran the operation without a stockroom or work orders.

 

Procurement Coordinator—Purchase over $9 million in assembled printed circuit boards from a contract manufacturer, and ship the products to customers throughout the world.  Have worked closely with the contract manufacturer to resolve serious problems dealing with on-time deliveries.  Through these efforts, on-time deliveries have been improved from 78% to over 95% on 800 different assemblies, while also increasing quality. 

Worked with an information specialist to develop a robust ordering system and database.  This system allows smooth delivery of components to our contract manufacturer and has resulted in production lead-time being reduced from 6 weeks to 4.
