Medical Clinic
Manager - Oversee the day to day operations of this
three-doctor medical practice and supervise a staff of seven. Purchase supplies
and equipment, handle all accounts payable and accounts receivable, make
collections, and develop quarterly financial statements. Have resolved serious
personnel problems with a significant increase in productivity and a
substantial reduction in absenteeism and turnover.
Nursing Home
Administrator - Manage this 54-bed nursing home and supervise
85 full-time and part-time employees. Have built a well motivated and stable
staff which provides high quality patient care. As a result, each year the
State has increased allowable costs. Staff turnover has been reduced over 30%.
New programs for patients and their families have been implemented which have
significantly increased visitations by family members. During the first two
years increased patient count from 40 to 54, and have since built a large
waiting list.
Clinical
Supervisor - Supervise the Orthopedics department with 45
FTEs and a $3.2 million budget. Work closely with one head nurse and three
assistant head nurses and have developed a very strong department. Recommended
and then implemented a program to enhance staff professionalism. Staff mix went
from 60% aides to 85% RNs as the department moved into primary nursing. Have
established a highly competent staff which demonstrates great concern for
patients, leading to a significant reduction in patient complaints. In 1998
merged spinal cord injury patients into Orthopedics.
Director of Health
Records Department - Supervised a staff of three and
trained them in methods of assembling and analyzing charts. Developed and wrote
a policies and procedures manual, improved filing of medical records through a
new color coded system, and set up a medical library. Developed a new analysis
sheet which resulted in more complete and better documented charts. Revised
rules for charting for nursing staff which improved documentation, reduced
legal risks, and increased revenue from insurance carriers. Worked with
insurance companies to supply necessary records while maintaining
confidentiality of patients. Significantly improved relations between Health
Records and other departments of the hospital.
Dental
Hygienist - As an Expanded Hygienist, provide complete
adult and child prophylaxis including charting, reviewing health history,
blood pressure, and oral exam. Perform perio scale, soft tissue curettage, and
root planing. Administer local anesthetic and nitrous oxide as needed. Also
condense and carve single surface amalgams on children as well as apply pit and
fissure sealants. Take full-mouth, bite wing, and periapical radiographs.
Provide complete demonstrations and instructions for home health care. Order
all supplies related to dental hygiene. Assist with sterilization of
instruments. Developed a highly effective recall system.
Radiology
Technologist - As a staff technologist in this 285-bed
hospital, produce radiographs in routine and specialized procedures. Rotate
weekly through surgery, emergency room, and special procedures. In special
procedures produce venograms, meleograms, IVP, voiding cystograms, facet
blocks, lymph angiograms, fluorscopy, arthograms, and neo-natal radiographs.
Have received many compliments from patients, radiologists, and physicians for
providing excellent care and producing high quality radiographs.
Admissions
Coordinator - Established and defined the position of
Admissions Coordinator in order to improve patient services and improve
community perceptions of the quality of care provided. Developed procedures for
physicians to specify admission dates, necessary tests, and other details about
patients. Make arrangements with all appropriate departments. Upon arrival,
meet with patients to perform physical and mental assessments. Through
improved procedures, average patient waiting time for initial nursing contact
has been reduce from one hour to less than fifteen minutes. Program has
received favorable response from physicians and is helping to lead to more
physician referrals.
Assistant
Director of Nursing - Provide overall direction for nursing
services and develop new programs and systems. Developed a system for
monitoring nursing hours per patient day. Through better utilization of staff
and increased productivity, have decreased the nursing hours per patient 12%
while maintaining the same high quality care. Program saves $180,000 per year.
Established a program which has significantly improved communications between
staff and nursing administration.
Nutritional Consultant—Provide clients nutritional
counseling designed specifically to meet their individual needs. Establish
strong relationships with clients and consistently convince them to adopt a
recommended regimen and lifestyle change. Over 90% of clients have experienced
measurable results and are extremely complimentary. Deliver effective and
informative presentations to groups.
Emergency Medical Technician—Emergency Department. Effectively help emergency
patients in stressful situations. In coordination with ER staff, draw blood and
perform lab tests, monitor patients’ vital signs, determine level of
consciousness, assess patients, and administer oxygen treatment. Perform wound
care. Apply soft and hard splints, collect samples, detect abnormal signs and
symptoms, and document actions. Participate in procedures such as chest tube
insertion. Set up equipment and procure supplies. Educate patients in their
self-care, including wound care.
Admit patients, prioritize
patient care, question patients, verify information, and coordinate physician
consults. Obtain lab results and record data. Very effective in establishing
rapport with patients and their families. Involved in all types of emergency
care including broken bones, lacerations, cuts, head injuries, cardiology, abdominal
injuries, and burns.
Clinic Administrator—Responsible for the
planning, personnel coordination, financial control, and evaluation of clinic
operations for an eight-physician practice. Upon taking the position evaluated
personnel and implemented a major reorganization of the front office and
business office personnel. Developed a team approach with extensive
cross-training in each specialty department of the clinic. Reduced the
full-time equivalencies from 9 to 7 while increasing patient satisfaction
significantly. Implemented tighter billing and collection controls. Outstanding
A/R was reduced from 2.9 months outstanding to 1.9 months. Prepared monthly
reports for both production and expense analysis.
Supervised a computer conversion of the billing and
patient registration functions. This allowed for greater efficiency for the
staff and enabled better tracking methods for reimbursements. Reduced office
overhead from 55% of revenue to 47%, thus turning the group's monthly income
statement from a negative to a positive cash flow.
