Strong
background in all phases of timber sale administration and log purchasing.
Maintain an excellent record for keeping mills supplied with logs purchased at
the best price possible. Recognized for ability to accurately estimate the
value of a stand and judge the quality of logs.
EMPLOYMENT
Forester
- Responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of logs for the stud mill and
for obtaining them at a profitable price. Appraise timber stands placed on sale
by the US Forest Service, Department of Natural Resources, Corps of Engineers,
and private owners. Assess the value of the logs on the open market and
determine the amount of timber usable by the stud mill. Have appraised over one
hundred timber sales. Develop excellent working relations with other sawmills
and purchase logs from those mills as well as independent loggers. Purchase
approximately 10 million board feet per year.
Forestry
Technician - For preparation of timber sales, tag
boundaries, cruise stands for volume, identify trees for cutting, and assist in
putting in road locations. Develop environmental impact statements for proposed
timber sales after reconning designated areas. Make recommendations regarding
road development, silviculture, logging techniques, and post harvest activity.
