EMPLOYMENT

Supervised 11 Superintendents and 300 Portuguese and Israeli laborers and craftsmen in the construction of hardened, reinforced concrete structures on the Telve Air Base. Constructed one million square feet of forms and poured 80,000 cubic yards of concrete in 20 months. The project, originally estimated to take five years, was completed in three years. Accumulated 1.4 million man-hours without a death or serious injury. Provided strong technical assistance in expediting critically needed foreign vendor materials. Received a strong letter of commendation from the US Army Corps of Engineers.

As project manager, involved in the early development of architectural designs, estimat­ing, budget preparation, and negotiations. Responsible for the overall success of each project. Handled all purchasing, met daily with site superintendents and architects, and monitored progress. Completed projects include:

Columbia View: A 15 story office building in downtown Portland. Completed this fast track, value engineered, $16 million project ahead of schedule and saved $800,000 through value engineering.

Motorola Corporation: Developed the 32 acre site and completed the $12 million accelerated construction project in only twelve months. Brought it in ahead of schedule and within budget. Project required highly sophisticated heating and mechanical systems for the acid waste treatment facility and the plant for manufacturing electronic parts.

As project manager, responsible for overseeing each project, scheduling the project, and keeping costs within the original estimate. Work closely with each site superintendent to ensure construction is progressing and to resolve problems as they occur. Negotiate contractual changes with owners and architects. Hire subcontractors and write the contracts. Typically manage two to three projects at a time. All projects have been completed on schedule. Projects have included:

Westgate Plaza, Denver, $9.5 million. Five story office building, 127,000 square feet, post tension ductile frame, concrete structure. Due to the critical schedule of the project, designed a flying form system which speeded up construction and resulted in substantial savings. Because of attention to buyouts and scheduling, project has been the most profitable in the history of the company.

Construction Superintendent - Highlands Estates. For this subdivision, built twenty-eight custom homes ranging from $390,000 to $550,000. Prepare sites and put in streets and underground utilities. Obtain bids, hire subs, and maintain production schedules. Personally handle grading, sewer work, framing, insulation, painting, landscaping, cement, and form work. Each house has been completed in under ninety working days.
